Sort it Out: Programming Robots to Recycle | Museum of Science, Boston
I co-developed a Kindergarten engineering and computer science unit with the Museum of Science that introduces students to early computer science and engineering concepts. This unit was designed collaboratively with a children’s writer so that unit lessons would be paired with chapters of the book as to give context to the activities.
The full curriculum can be acquired on the Museum of Science website here!
In this unit, students become computer engineers as they work to clean up a park and keep trash out of the landfill. They’ll sort and count items and decide which ones can be recycled. Then, they’ll design a program for a robot that takes trash to the right bin. Teachers can choose a fully unplugged lesson, not using digital devices at all, or follow the plugged version using robots.
